At the conclusion of a fireside last night, our Stake President announced that he had received word that our beloved Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley had passed away. Though the news was delivered quite abruptly the moment was bitter sweet as someone in the congregation began singing We Thank Thee Oh God For A Prophet. It was comforting to be in a room full of saints just enlightened by the spirit.
President Hinckley was the Prophet for my generation. He taught me much about faith, love, hope and charity. I love him for his optimism and his gentle reminders to be better people, he constantly encouraged us to reach our potential.
This will be an exciting time for the church as we start a new chapter with a new leader. The work will go on and our faith will buoy us up.
“Faith in something greater than ourselves enables us to do what we have said we'll do, to press forward when we are tired or hurt or afraid, to keep going when the challenge seems overwhelming and the course is entirely uncertain.”
President Gordon B. Hinckley
